UP journalist, shot over property dispute; 3 Arrested: Police
Last night in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, a journalist was allegedly shot and killed by a journalist over a property dispute, with police saying that all the accused involved in the attack had been arrested.
Local journalist Ratan Singh, who contributed stories to a private news channel, was shot dead near his home in Ballia in eastern UP, around 260 km from the state capital Lucknow, at around 9 am on Monday. He was 42 years old.
Police said that Mr. Singh lived in a house in the urban part of the district. However, his family was involved in a property dispute with the accused in a house in his village for the last few years.
Last night, the 42-year-old went to his village over the case when he was chased and shot dead. Mr. Singh was trying to escape from his attackers, when he got caught in bullets.
All three people allegedly involved in the attack have been arrested.
"The accused had built a wall around the property. The accused also claimed for a stake in the land, which was removed by the journalist. The case was feuded and the journalist was attacked. He died on the spot. happened." Police has arrested three accused.
Property disputes and old enmity are believed to be the reason behind the attack, ”Subhash Dubey, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azamgarh Range told reporters.
"I should again state that the attack had nothing to do with the fact that he was a journalist," he said.
Last month, another journalist was shot dead in Ghaziabad, UP in front of his two daughters, triggering a wave of mourning across the state.
Vikram Joshi was traveling on a motorcycle with his two daughters when a group of men beat him up and opened fire on him. Four days before the attack, she complained to the police about her niece being harassed by a group of men.
