New Delhi:

More than 700 districts have participate in the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration, which will be conferred on October 31 at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, the Ministry of Personnel said on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will award the winners.

The scheme for this year's awards has been restructured to recognize the performance of district collectors towards the economic development of their regions.

The ministry said in a statement that the contribution of district collectors would be recognized for the implementation of inclusive credit flow in the priority sector, promoting people's movements and improving delivery of service.

"About 702 districts have registered and participated in the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 which is 95 percent," it said.

The statement said that 678 districts have opted for the District Performance Indicator Program (DPIP).

It has been said that a total of 646 applications have been received under the category of innovations, of which 104 are from central government organizations.

The ministry said that 193 applications are from state-level innovations and 660 applications have been received for district-level innovations.

It said that 48 and 81 districts respectively have applied under Namami Gange and Aspirational District programs.

The statement said that the Prime Minister's awards are also to recognize the efforts of district level officials in the Namami Gange program.

After two years of implementation the award has been revived for the aspirational district program to award the district with the best overall progress under the scheme.

The PM Awards portal was launched on July 17, 2020 by Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh.

The minister said that the last date for registration and filing of nomination has been extended to 23 August.
