Dom Raja of Kashi near by; PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath Express grief

 

Varanasi:

Dom Raja Jagdish Chaudhary of Kashi died on Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was the most senior member of his family.

The Dom Raja are the keepers of sacred flames worshiped by Hindus, which are used at the Ghats of Varanasi for cremation of dead bodies. It is believed that the Dome community has been assigned tasks since the time of King Harishchandra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mourned the death of Chaudhary.
