Was there money laundering? In Sushant Singh Rajput case, a new angle

New Delhi:

An investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput is a "suspicious transaction" of Rs 15 crore under the lens of the Enforcement Directorate probing the financial crime. Was there money laundering?

The agency has sought details of a police case filed by the actor's father in Bihar allegedly to investigate Sushant's brother-in-law's brother Riya Chakraborty's transaction. The 34-year-old actor died by suicide in his Mumbai apartment last month, police have said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought details from Bihar Police including a copy of the First Information Report or FIR lodged this week based on a complaint by KK Singh, father of Sushant Singh Rajput.

The FIR named six people, including actor Riya Chakraborty, his brother and other family members, and accused them of financially cheating Sushant, mentally disturbing him and leading him to suicide.

The FIR mentions a "suspicious transaction" of Rs 15 crore, which has shocked the interest of the Enforcement Directorate, which has sought details to look into the possible money laundering angle.

"No PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) case has been registered by the ED yet. We have only sought the case from the Bihar Police. About initiating money laundering investigation after scrutinizing details and documents from Bihar Police The decision will be made.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal to hand over the death of Sushant Singh Rajput to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Chief Justice SA Bobde directed petitioner Alka Priya to "go to Bombay High Court if you have anything concrete" to "let the police do their job".

In a call from various political leaders for a CBI probe, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday said there was "no question" of transferring the case. Ms. Chakraborty requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to transfer the case to the CBI earlier this month.

Sushant Singh Rajput's father has also approached the Supreme Court, asking him to hear it before deciding on Riya Chakraborty's plea to transfer the case filed by him from Patna to Mumbai. The Bihar government has supported his petition.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai on 14 June. The Mumbai Police is investigating allegations of professional rivalry with his alleged clinical depression.

More than 40 people have recorded their statements so far in this case, including Riya Chakraborty, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, filmmaker Aditya Chopra, director Mukesh Chhabra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, film critic Rajeev Masand.
